Senator Charles Schumer is calling on the president to block a controversial deal that would give a United Arab Emirates company control over New York's ports.
With September 11th victims families at his side, Schumer urged the White House to over-ride the deal approved by the Committee on Foreign Investments at a press conference in Battery Park on Sunday.
In the multi-billion dollar deal, Dubai World Ports would gain control of the operations of six major ports, including New York and New Jersey.
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff says the federal government made sure the deal posed no threat to the nation's security.
Senator Hillary Clinton is working on legislation that would bar foreign companies from running U.S. ports.
