A 11-year-old girl is fighting for her life in a Brooklyn hospital Sunday after being shot in the face yesterday, allegedly by a 10-year-old boy.

Police say the girl, identified as Brenda Fields, was inside an apartment on Pacific Street in Crown Heights Saturday when the shooting happened. The unidentified boy reportedly shot Fields after he mistakenly thought the gun he was playing with was a toy.

According to published reports, there were two adults and several children in the apartment at the time of the shooting.

Fields was taken to Brookdale Hospital and is listed in critical condition.

The boy is now in police custody facing assault charges. Police have not said how he and Fields are related. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
