A Ground Zero artifact will be memorialized in bronze.

A sycamore tree shielded St. Paul's Church from falling debris from the World Trade Center collapse on September 11, 2001. Now, the tree’s root system is being made into a sculpture that will rest on the church grounds.

Pennsylvania artist Steve Tobin, who is well known for making bronze sculptures of natural objects, says this particular tree has a lot more meaning than most.

“I thought that the root system should be preserved and turned into a sculpture to highlight the strength in the unseen, and how the city has come together in the same way as the roots,” said Tobin.

The artist says once he's finished with the project, he'll return the tree stump and the sculpture to St. Paul’s. He expects the project to take six months to complete. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
