NY1's website, NY1.com, has been honored with the Edward R. Murrow Award for Best News Website in the region of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
The annual award is given by the Radio-Television News Directors Association, the world's largest professional organization devoted exclusively to electronic journalism.
It is the highest honor NY1.com has received since the site was launched in 1996, four years after NY1 News made its debut on Time Warner Cable.
The NY1 website, which was completely redesigned in 1999 in conjunction with the launch of Time Warner Cable's high-speed Road Runner service in New York City, today boasts a searchable text and video database, a PDA news feed, live audio streaming, and more than 15,000 Real Media video clips.
The Murrow Awards are named for Edward R. Murrow, the groundbreaking television journalist who pioneered modern news reporting techniques. This year's competition attracted more than 2,300 regional entries from all 50 states.
Winners were selected in 13 categories ranging from overall station excellence to spot news reporting, writing and video editing.
