One option for travelers flying solo: special cruises for single travelers who are ready to mingle. NY1's Valarie D’Elia filed the following report.

If you're a single-minded traveler, here's some options for going solo.

Cruising for a mate? Setting sail is one of the top options on the singles scene these days.

Three of Norwegian Cruise Lines ships have set aside cabins for individuals including the Breakaway from New York City.

Staterooms in the “Studio” category provide private access to The Living Room, an exclusive lounge shared by fellow singletons.

On the prowl? Younger men who want to date a hot older woman with means can sign up for a Cougar cruise on board the Golden Princess. Setting sail from LA to Mexico in late October, it is hosted by The Society of Single Professionals.

The rate is based on double occupancy, so you have to bunk with another person to get the best fare.

If you don’t book double occupancy, or do business with a company that offers single-centric digs, you may be faced with paying a single supplement, an extra fee the travel provider charges so they can maximize their profits.

"One person in a room does not use the mini bar as much, tip the porter as much or even the restaurant as much as two people in a room," says Phyllis Stoller of The Women's Travel Group.

Instead, look for travel providers that guarantee shares, waive the single supplement or reduce it.

The Body Holiday, a fitness retreat on St. Lucia, offers Garden rooms with no singles fees and maintains designated “communal tables” at meals.

Tauck, the global tour operator is eliminating the single supplement on some European riverboats as well as introducing single cabins on two of its newest ships. It is also reducing the single supplement by up to $600 on select land departures.

Lastly, look to online marketplaces such as wandermates.com for like-minded travel pals.
