The shore protection systems on Staten Island will soon be evaluated.

Staten Island beaches and bluffs— the steep faces of sand or soil along the shoreline—were severely eroded during Hurricane Sandy.

Boats and maritime facilities at Great Kills Harbor were extensively damaged.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today a $300,000 dollar grant towards finding the best approach to protecting Staten Island shorelines and harbors in the event of future storms.

The evaluation project is financed by the state Environmental Protection Fund. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
