Former Public Advocate Mark Green on Tuesday threw his support behind Zephyr Teachout in the democratic primary for governor.
In a statement endorsing Teachout and her running mate, Tim Wu, Green said, "Experience in public office can certainly be a virtue. But there are times when experience takes a back seat to the kind of fresh idealism that can truly shake up politics-as-usual in Albany."
Meanwhile, the Daily News is throwing its support behind Governor Andrew Cuomo.
In an op-ed published Tuesday, the News calls Cuomo the best Democrat for the job of governor.
It touts a number of Cuomo's accomplishments, including tax cuts, education reform and legalizing gay marriage.
While the paper criticizes him for shutting down the anti-corruption Moreland Commission, it also points out that Cuomo was able to get some ethics reform from state lawmakers.
The News says Teachout has no governmental experience or private-sector accomplishments and calls her "wholly unqualified" to lead New York State.
The paper also encourages Democrats to rally behind the governor next week.
It says, "The bigger Cuomo's tally and the larger his margin of victory, the greater his muscle will be as he embarks on an all-but-certain second term. A vote for Cuomo will be a vote for the futures of the Democratic Party and New York."
