The storms that swept through the city yesterday turned out to be dangerous for three people in the Bronx.

The fire department says they were taken to the hospital after being hit by lightning at Orchard Beach.

It's not clear how badly they were hurt.

We spoke with some beach-goers who say the storm blew in very quickly.

"We were all having a great time. All of sudden it got dark and it started coming down slowly. And then the thunder started hitting. And it just started—bam!" one person said.

"The rain was coming down. The lightning was going crazy. And I see a crowd of people and the lightning struck and they were taking people out of the water. It was something you know," said another beach-goer.

The heavy rains created big puddles and slick conditions on some city streets and roads, including the West Side Highway.

The wicked weather also forced the Electric Zoo festival on Randall's Island to wrap up six hours early. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
