While some New Yorkers are heading out of town for the three-day holiday weekend others are sticking around to enjoy one last trip to the city's many beaches and pools.
They are all set to close for the season on Monday.
Some beachgoers in Coney Island were already enjoying the sand and surf early Friday morning.
One woman who spoke with NY1 said she will miss her daily swim after Labor Day.
"You feel like you're communing with nature, and all the wildness and craziness of Coney Island is kind of in the background. And I love the idea that its very, kind of secluded," she said.
"July 4th Labor Day, its crazy here. It's just packed. Everybody comes from everywhere and there's barbecuing, going to the amusement park. But you have to work all weekend? Yeah, yup," said another Coney Island resident.
"Oh growing up here, Labor Day was always a critical day, yeah for the businesses, and if it wasn't really nice on the three day weekend the businesses would get damaged," said a third Coney Islander.
Lifeguards are on duty at city beaches from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Outdoor pools are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
