Police say two alleged teenage vandals were caught red handed on the Upper West Side.

Police say 17-year-old Mike Kushnir and a 15-year-old girl were arrested while using red spray paint to vandalize the Soldiers' and Sailors' Civil War Memorial Monument on Riverside Drive and West 89th Street.

Police say Kushnir tried to flee on his skateboard, but both teens were taken into custody and have been charged with multiple counts of felony criminal mischief.

The girl will be charged as a minor, but police say both suspects have been arrested before for defacing property.

Police say there has been a 4 percent rise in this type of crime since this time last year. ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
