Police in Brooklyn are warning residents about a scam involving a fake church.

The New York City Police Department's 73rd Precinct tweeted out a picture of a flyer alerting people to the hoax.

It says scammers are going around the Brownsville neighborhood asking for money to start their own congregation.

Police say there is no church and are urging people not to donate any money.

Residents can report scammers by calling (718) 498-8786.
