The number 6 is officially out of play for the New York Yankees following a ceremony Saturday in the Bronx.

Fans cheered as Joe Torre's number 6 was retired.

Torre managed the team for 12 seasons and brought home four World Series titles as well as six American League pennants.

The ceremony also honored Goose Gossage, Tino Martinez, Paul O’Neill, and Torre with plaques in Monument Park.

"I don't know where to start but to have your number retired for any team is certainly special," Torre said. "I played for 16 or 17 years but it could never match the 12 years here in Yankee pinstripes."

Torre was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame last month.

He is the 17th Yankee to have their number retired.

The retirement of Torre's number 6 leaves the Yankees with one remaining unretired single-digit jersey, number 2, which is worn by Derek Jeter.
