NY1 ItCH Alert: Eva Moskowitz Says She Could Run for Mayor in 2017

  • Text size: + -

With the last mayoral election less than ten months behind us, charter school executive Eva Moskowitz isn’t ruling out a challenge to Mayor de Blasio in 2017.

In an interview with NY1 Political Anchor, Moskowitz, a former City Councilwoman, seemed to enjoy the speculation about her future. Here’s an excerpt of their exchange:

Louis: "I keep hearing rumors, you know—chatter, the CIA would say—that Eva Moskowitz might be a candidate for mayor at some point. Is there any truth to that?"

Moskowitz: "It's possible. I have always have been very open about my respect for public service. My hope is, though, that we can really move this city forward. I grew up in New York in the 1970s and I remember what it was like when governmental services did not work very, very well. And I'm hoping we can keep the forward movement that we have seen in this city."

Louis: "If the forward movement doesn't happen to your satisfaction, would we see an Eva Moskowitz in a candidacy as early as 2017?"

Moskowitz: "Anything is possible. I love kids. I love what I'm doing. It's incredibly hard. I love working with teachers and principals; they are my heroes. They are very dedicated to children and it is very impactful."

Moskowitz and de Blasio were hardly the best of friends when they served together for four years on the Council where they frequently jostled over education issues.

Moskowitz endorsed Mayor Bloomberg for re-election in 2005.
