Dozens of people rallied in Union Square in Manhattan Wednesday night to show solidarity with protesters in Ferguson.

One woman said she went to the rally to see what people outside her immediate group of friends think about the ongoing situation.

"I can say personally that I've ever had a situation where I felt so immediately effected by, even though I'm not from Missouri and I haven't been in a situation like that it could have been me,” said one New Yorker.

Protesters say the rally started with an unapproved March that zigzagged its way up from Roosevelt Park on the Lower East Side as participants attempted to avoid the police.
