Broadway's brightest stars camped out on the streets of Hell's Kitchen Sunday night to raise awareness for homeless kids.

The group serenaded residents at the Covenant house on 41st Street near 10th Avenue before hitting the hay.

This is the second annual event pairing the Broadway players with Covenant House.

About 70 people gathered outside the shelter trading their warm beds for cold cardboard for an experimental lesson in living life as a homeless child.

"Really uncomfortable, oh God, and we had cardboard and sleeping bags," said Broadway Sleeps Out Executive Committee Member Capathia Jenkins.

"One of the gals spoke about sleeping on a park bench and getting up, cleaning herself up in the bathroom and then going to school the next day. I can't imagine trying to use my brain for anything at this hour let alone taking tests at school," said Broadway Sleeps Out Executive Committee Member Stephanie J. Block.

This year's event raised an estimated $225,000. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
