The costumed characters in Times Square are looking to assemble in an effort to improve their working conditions.
Dozens of actors met with immigrant advocacy group La Fuente Tuesday to discuss forming a labor group.
A representative for the organization says they want the characters to be treated fairly.
“So we thought it was extremely important that they sat down and had a conversation about, what is the external factors that are pushing up against them, and requiring for them to now come together and have some kind of unity and a voice that they can speak from?” said La Fuente Executive Director Lucia Gomez.
The desire to unionize comes in part as a response to a recent NYPD campaign that explains that tipping the characters is optional.
Some actors say that's led to a drop in tips, but the NYPD says its responding to harassment complaints.
Last month, a man dressed as Spiderman was arrested after police say he hit a cop who told a tourist she could tip whatever she wanted.
