An independent investigative body is getting behind a recent federal report that says teen inmates are mistreated at Rikers Island.
The Board of Correction, which is in charge of making sure city jails meet proper standards, says it has been going after the city's Department of Correction for years for the same problems mentioned in the U.S. Attorney's report released last week.
The report found jail guards often resort to excessive force and solitary confinement to deal with adolescent prisoners.
In a letter to the Mayor's Office, BOC officials say the de Blasio Adiminstration should stand behind the federal report as well.
The U.S. Attorney says there is a quote "culture of violence" at Rikers that leads to the violation of prisoners' constitutional rights.
