A bill aiming to protect immigrants from fraud has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

It creates a new crime called "immigration assistance fraud," which can be a misdemeanor or a felony.

It also bans misleading job titles designed to make immigrants think a service provider has a law degree or some other kind of special credential.

The law also makes permanent the Office for New Americans, which the state launched last year and helps immigrants on the road to becoming naturalized citizens. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
