Starting today, any New Yorker that wants to sign up for a .nyc web domain can.
Any business, organization or person with an address in one of the five boroughs can apply for one before the domain goes live on October 8.
Until now, only registered trademark holders with a city address could sign up.
Mayor Bill de Blasio says the new domain gives people the unique opportunity to showcase their affiliation with the city.
This is still a pre-registration phase. In October, any domain that has more than one interested buyer will go to bidding.
