More drivers who use the Verrazano Bridge will soon be able to charge their tolls.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says a pilot program that lets commercial vehicles pay with debit or credit cards will be extended to cars and motorcycles.
Under the program, drivers who don't have enough cash can charge the $15 toll.
Drivers with negative E-Z Pass balances can also use plastic, but they will pay the full cash price.
The MTA says the program is really a safety initiative that keeps officers from having to walk into traffic, and prevents tie-ups caused by vehicles that are forced to turn around.
The agency has not said exactly when it will expand the program at the bridge.
