The dog that was with Charles Mozdir—the wanted sex offender who died in a shootout with law enforcement in West Village Monday—is now being sheltered at the sixth precinct and will soon be reunited with his rightful owner.

The canine, whom Mozdir called Lucky, actually played a role in police being able to track down the fugitive.

A U.S. marshal says they got a tip from someone telling them that Mozdir was traveling with a black lab.

They say that made it easier to identify Mozdir.

Police say the pooch appears to be healthy and happy and staying with other dogs with the bomb squad.

It's not clear why or how Mozdir had the dog.
