Central Park gets soaked in its annual water fight on the Great Lawn.
In the words of its organizers—this year was wet, but not too wild.
Water balloons were banned after being deemed too messy.
Those involved said it was still a great time despite the restrictions, and the host says he hopes it becomes a New York staple.
"And I really wanted this to become a New York tradition, something that happens every year. Like something that could be in the calendar one day," said organizer Brian De La Cruz.
"I do not have a game plan. I came in ready to wet someone and like a group of guys attacked us like, 'They're dry!' and we're just like 'Oh my gosh!' And we just got soaked, but it's like so hot, so just to get wet it just feels great and it's fun and everyone's here together and it's cool," one participant said.
Thousands of people participated, toting water guns, buckets and water bottles.
