Catholic church officials both here and in Philadelphia are hopeful a visit by the Pope is on the horizon.
According to the National Catholic Reporter, Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput says the Pope will attend the 8th Annual World Meeting of Families in the City of Brotherly Love in September 2015.
But the Philadelphia Archdiocese says the Vatican hasn't confirmed that.
A Vatican spokesperson says the Pope is considering visiting several cities including Philadelphia, New York, and Washington.
While on vacation this week Mayor de Blasio visited the Vatican and formally extended an invitation to the Pope.
September is when the UN General Assembly meets, so that could be a deciding factor.
Pope Benedict made the last papal visit to New York in 2008.
