Derek Jeter may not be a Hall of Famer just yet, but he's already taking his place alongside Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth in a mural project near Yankee Stadium.
At a street fair on 161st Street in the Bronx Saturday, artist Lexi Bella painted Jeter's face onto one of the metal gates at Stan's Sports World.
She said the portrait honors the Yankee captain as one of the best baseball players of all time.
"I settled on this real closeup of Derek Jeter to really show how he shines and reflect how much the community loves him and how much the Yankees love him, Yankees fans love him and America loves him," Bella said.
Bella said a painting of Reggie Jackson is on the way.
She said it's part of a wider neighborhood beautification project.
