Two men are facing charges after police say they tried to rape a woman in the Ridgewood section of Queens on Wednesday.

Police say 21-year-old Franclin Velazquez and 28-year-old Jorge Maldonado were arrested Friday.

Police say an 18-year old woman was walking near Putnam Avenue and Seneca Avenue just before 3 a.m. Wednesday when the two approached her from behind.

They say Velazquez hit the victim in the head while Maldonado choked her, covered her mouth and tried to take her purse.

Velazquez then allegedly began sexually assaulting the woman, but a passerby approached and caused both men to run off.

The woman was taken to the hospital and later released.

Both men are charged with attempted rape and sexual abuse.

Maldonado is also facing assault charges.
