Former Deputy Mayor Paul Gibson has died.
He died late last week.
Gibson was the first African-American official to serve in the job.
He was appointed by Mayor Abe Beame in 1974 after future Mayor David Dinkins was forced to withdraw his name from contention over a tax return scandal.
Gibson went on to serve three years in the position.
Before he was deputy mayor, Gibson was general counsel and housing chairman of the state's chapter of the NAACP.
Paul Gibson was 86 years old.
