The neighbor of a proposed waste transfer station on the Upper East Side has big plans to make it aesthetically pleasing.
Officials at the Asphalt Green recreation facility are proposing a green roof for the station, that could serve as a new park for the area.
Their idea also focuses on a truck ramp that could be enclosed, turning it into a "linear" public park similar to the High Line.
Asphalt Green says the proposal would improve project safety, increase green space, and reduce long-term health risks.
Ideas for the park include climbing walls, a running loop, and possibly outdoor exercise stations.
The waste station was first proposed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, as part of a plan to make each borough in charge of getting rid of its own garbage.
