Police have arrested a man who they say stole more than $25,000 worth of jewelry from a store in the Diamond District.

Police say 25-year Jonathan Hwang was shopping at Sea Wave Diamonds Thursday at around 6 p.m. when he ran out with two Rolex watches.

Store employees chased him down the street and were able to stop him.

"He basically used a moment when a customer were leaving, were leaving outside of the door because the door is always buzzed, and he tried to get away," said Alex Shimunov, the owner of Sea Wave Diamonds.

"You go into a jewelry store and, you know, you go to make a sale, and all of a sudden, the sale turn into a robbery," said jewelry designer Avi Aranbayev.

Hwang is being charged with third-degree grand larceny and possession of stolen property.
