The Department of Correction honored its oldest employee by naming the Rikers Island commissary after him at a ceremony Tuesday.

Darnell "Pops" Davis, who is 90 years old, has worked in the jail commissary since 1985.

He retired as manager in April.

Davis was awarded a plaque at the ceremony for his hard work and positive attitude.

"Well, when you got a job and you like what you're doing, then you stay until you say you got to go," Davis said. "And I got 30 years with the government, so when I retire from here, I say it's time to go and relax."

Davis said he will keep living on his own in the Bronx, but plans to take a vacation in Florida soon. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
