It was a special 115th birthday party for the city's oldest resident.

Family and friends gathered Tuesday at the Vandalia Senior Center in East New York to celebrate Susannah Jones, who is known as Miss Susie.

The Department for the Aging says she was born in Alabama in 1899 where she fought segregation to become a high school graduate.

She moved to New York in 1923 and continues to live at the Vandalia Houses.

"How often do we really get to honor someone in Brooklyn who is 115 years old? I mean this is just amazing."

The Gerontology Research Group says Jones is the third oldest person in the world. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
