The Material Girl herself spent some time living in a judicial world Monday in the Big Apple.

Madonna turned up for jury duty at a courthouse in Lower Manhattan, then sat privately in a clerk's office for about two hours before being released.

A court spokesperson says the pop icon was cut loose because there were enough potential jurors, and officials were concerned she would distract from the jury selection process.

The spokesperson also said Madonna's appearance shows that sooner or later everyone gets called for jury duty.
