Some families may be missing out on free summer meals for school-age children due to a lack of awareness.
Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer writes in the Daily News that two-thirds of families who rely on emergency-food programs are not aware the city serves two meals daily for students during the summer months.
Brewer is urging the city to take steps to better inform parents.
She says it should announce program locations by June 1, when students are still in school.
She also says the city should publicize the program in multiple languages through 311.
