Police are warning New Yorkers to protect their identity and their money during the long weekend.

Use extra caution when withdrawing money from an ATM. Officers say scammers often place skimming devices and cameras at banks and ATM locations during long holiday weekends to steal your debit and credit card information.

Many bank branches will be closed until Monday, and it could take a longer period of time for banks and customers to notice they've been targeted.

Police say always check an ATM to make sure nothing is loose or tampered with on the machine, and always cover the number pad when entering your pin code.
