Mayor Bill de Blasio signs a new law to expedite the process for people using the city's Build It Back program.
The legislation allows the Department of Buildings to waive pre-construction fees for contractors.
Previously, contractors had to pay the fees on behalf of homeowners, then reimbursed by the city.
"This eliminates steps that slowed the pre-construction process. It also frees up federal dollars for other crucial needs, dollars that we're using to hire Department of Building inspectors dedicated specifically to Build It Back properties—and that will speed up relief further," de Blasio said.
De Blasio says 96 projects have already started, 320 reimbursement checks have gone out and 450 design consultations have been completed under the program since the beginning of the year.
