New immunization requirements for students across the state are going into effect Tuesday.

The guidelines do not add new vaccines, but change the required number of doses and the minimum amount of time allowed between them.

Changes include additional doses of the chicken pox and polio vaccines.

The guidelines also require medical exemptions be re-issued annually.

It's the first time the New York State Department of Health has updated vaccine requirements for students.

They apply to students in day care, nursery, Head Start, and pre-k through 12th grade.
