Thousands of firefighters and EMTs will now carry a powerful drug that can counteract a heroin overdose.

The fire commissioner says more than 4,000 additional first responders will now join the more than 900 paramedics already trained to administer the drug Naloxone.

The state attorney general is also providing more than $1 million for 20,000 police officers to carry the drug.
