The newest member of the de Blasio administration is no stranger to how the city works.

Mayor Bill de Blasio on Friday appointed former NYPD Chief of Department Joseph Esposito as the newest head of the Office of Emergency Management.

Esposito spent 44 years as a member of the police department before retiring last year.

As Chief of Department, he worked closely with other law enforcement agencies and oversaw their crisis response capabilities.

As OEM Commissioner, he'll be in charge of coordinating disaster response among all city agencies, and properly educating city residents on disaster preparedness.

He takes over for outgoing Commissioner Joe Bruno, who resigned from the post earlier this month.

Bruno was the last hold over from the Bloomberg administration. His last day was Friday. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
