Brooklyn rapper and leader of the Bloods street gang, Ronald Herron, also known as "Ra Diggs," was convicted of three murders Thursday.
Herron was found guilty on all counts of racketeering and homicide.
Prosecutors showed jurors music videos in which Herron rhymes about guns and spilling the blood of rivals.
Herron said his lyrics were exaggerations and hyperbole and that he was simply trying to become a successful rap star.
The charges came from Herron's leadership in the violent gang that ran through the Gowanus Housing Development.
Following the month-long trial United States Attorney Loretta Lynch announced the verdict saying, "He styled himself as a rap artist, but the jury's verdict makes clear who Herron really is, a drug dealer and murderer who sought power through fear and intimidation.”
