Some City Council members are taking action, hoping to make more public housing apartments available to homeless families.

In a letter to the mayor, they're calling for at least 2,500 units to be made available.

The New York City Housing Association recently proposed just 750.

The council members said that lower number is especially concerning given the increasing number of families with children in the city's shelter system.

NYCHA has not commented.
