Police say a drug suspect who they say escaped custody and injured a police officer in the process Monday night is back behind bars.

Investigators say police were trying to arrest Bryan McMenamim, 38, for selling drugs around 7 p.m. in Glendale.

They say McMenamin managed to slip away despite being handcuffed, got into a van and drove off.

A narcotics detective injured his leg while trying to stop McMenamim.

The stolen van was found a short time later less than a mile away.

Helicopters and other search vehicles were called into the neighborhood, leaving some residents shaken up.

"It's amazing how not only something like this could happen, but the fact that he's still on the loose in a neighborhood like this where there's children all over the place, it's scary. It really is scary," said one resident.

"Yeah I was so scared. When I wake up, I was checking my kitchen, the bathroom, and everything because my sister called me and and say that he was around here, and we was scared," said another resident.

Police say McMenamin was arrested before for arson, robbery and menacing. ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
