An iconic Brooklyn sign is coming down but its letters will be preserved.

The eight-story Kentile Floors sign on 9th Street is set to be demolished, but its owner says the letters will be saved and donated to the not-for-profit Gowanus Alliance, which may re-install them in another location.

The sign is more than 50 years old.

It needs to be torn down because of the deteriorating condition of the roof and other structural problems made worse by Hurricane Sandy.
