Straphangers riding on the F line through Gowanus may no longer see one familiar sight on their commute.

According to City Councilman Brad Lander, the eight-story Kentile Floors sign on Ninth Street is set to be demolished.

A permit recently attached to the building calls for the removal of the structure and the sign.

Residents' reactions were mixed.

"That's the fact that it's not there anymore, so why the sign should stay up there?" said one resident.

"I liked it. It's been there as long as I can remember," said another. "And I'm sure if I feel this way, a lot of other people must feel this way."

The sign has been in the neighborhood for more than 60 years.

NY1 reached out to the owners of the building for comment, but has not heard back so far. ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
