A child was seriously hurt after being struck by a vehicle in Brooklyn early Friday evening.

Police say the 5-year-old was hit near Fulton Street and Utica Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. Friday.

"The car was going fast. The car looked like it had the green light," said one witness. "But you know, the kid probably tried to beat the light, got struck."

"I've lived over here for a few years, and I've never heard of any accidents over here with this, because you know, we have traffic lights. It's a pretty regulated area," said another.

The boy was taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition, but authorities said he's expected to pull through.

An investigation is ongoing.
