Police have arrested a man who they say shot his own mother in Manhattan.
Investigators say the 62-year-old woman checked herself into Bellevue Hospital with a gunshot wound.
They say she was in her apartment on East 28th Street when she heard a loud bang.
That's when she realized she'd been shot in the back, according to investigators.
Police searched door-to-door looking for the 33-year-old, and he was eventually arrested nearby.
"They sealed up the block. They thought he was in the house, and he wasn't. He was down on the corner waiting to get up the block, supposedly," said Steve Rizzatto, a witness. "When they opened up the block, he came walking up the block, and they arrested him in front of the hair-cutting place."
"You don't want to hear that in anybody's building where you live all your life, you know, but I just hope she's OK," said neighbor Julie Verola.
Police are still trying to determine the motive for the shooting.
