New Yorkers will now get three days notice about upcoming city construction projects that could cause service disruptions.
The Department of Design and Construction says it will now send out emails to residents, businesses and local leaders 72 hours before work begins.
Previously, residents were given notice the day before.
The DDC will then issue another notice 24 hours ahead of time, and follow their previous practice of going door-to-door to tell residents and businesses about the work.
New Yorkers will be notified about projects that will shut down streets, remove parking spaces, or cut off water and electricity.
The change was originally proposed by Bronx City Councilman James Vacca.
In a statement, the DDC Commissioner said, in part, "It is a priority for me and for our agency to be good neighbors in every neighborhood where we are working, and to minimize the disruptions that infrastructure construction projects create for residents and businesses."
