A new plan for green cabs could reportedly boost the number of wheelchair accessible taxis to more than 16,000.
The Taxi and Limousine Commission has drafted a proposal to increase the amount of green cabs with ramps in their fleet from 20 percent to 50 percent.
Green taxis are only allowed to pick up passengers in upper Manhattan and the other boroughs.
The TLC passed a similar measure earlier this year to make yellow cabs more wheelchair accessible.
Currently, there are about 800 wheelchair-equipped cabs on city streets.
