A Brooklyn man is presumed dead after a hiking accident in Washington state.

Erik Britton Kolb was part of a group of six hikers and two guides from around the world that went missing on Mount Rainier last week.

His family says the 34 year old was quote "an avid outdoorsman with a passion for new and exciting experiences.''

Kolb's group failed to return from their hike Friday.

They were last heard from on May 28.

Park officials say the conditions surrounding their disappearance are unclear, and their bodies may never be recovered because they went missing in extremely hazardous terrain.
