The FDNY honored exemplary acts of bravery at its annual Medal Day ceremony Wednesday.
The honorees this year include Lieutenant Robert E. Lee, who saved two people from a fire in the Bronx in October, and EMT Brandon Hernandez, who disarmed a man who stole a police officer's gun.
"Some do things that are so extraordinary we make sure to regularly note them and thank them and commend them and hold them up as the example that they are," Mayor Bill de Blasio said.
"This is nice for us, but the most rewarding part is being able to see that person face-to-face, you know, say 'hey, I was able to be a part of moving her and make sure she's here today,'" Lee said.
65 people were recognized this year at the department's 145th Medal Day observance.
