City officials on Friday announced a two-track planning strategy to rezone Manhattan's East Midtown neighborhood.
The mayor's office says the plan seeks to improve infrastructure and attract jobs to ensure the area remains a competitive business district.
It includes zoning changes along a five block section of Vanderbilt Avenue near Grand Central Station that will allow developers to build larger buildings while also creating more open space.
The proposal also establishes a task-force to monitor the long-term needs of the district.
Officials say public input will play a large role in shaping proposed changes.
