Is the city ready to welcome back ferrets?
Mayor Rudolph Giuliani banned the weasels in the city in 1999.
However, a petition to legalize them within the five boroughs is making its way through City Hall.
The petition was started by ferret enthusiast Ariel Jasper in Brooklyn and is expected to go before
the Board of Health by the end of the summer.
"When I saw that they were labeled as wild, dangerous animals within the five boroughs and to me that didn't make sense because they've been domesticated for over 2,500 years," said Jasper.
Sources say the de Blasio administration has not taken an official stance on the issue.
The Health Department says there will be a public hearing and comment period.
